The Mayan Ruins of Yaxha, Guatemala

When mentioning Mayan ruins in Guatemala, most people will immediately think about Tikal. The archeological site of Yaxha however, is a beautiful and less touristic alternative. It’s the third largest Mayan city in Guatemala, after Tikal and El Mirador. Yaxha was one of my favorite places to visit in this country and I enjoyed it more than Tikal. The reason for this is that I found myself almost completely alone at these beautiful ruins in the middle of the Guatemalan jungle and it felt magical.
